Summer School Programme 2021

Priory Pembroke Academy - Summer School 2021

At the end of the school academic year, the Priory Pembroke Academy proudly delivered a summer school programme available to all new, year 7 starters. All 120 pupils who had been offered a space to join the school in September 2021 were invited to attend across 5 days.

Parents were invited to register an interest in attendance for 2 days with the possibility to attend on extra days should the space be available. Confirmation was then sent to the 88 parents who had booked on their child to attend.

The first day took place on Thursday 22nd July with the last of the five days running on Wednesday 28th July. Across the 5 days the pupils were given the chance to view the schools facilities and explore the layout of the buildings to assist them when starting in September. Teachers and support staff from the Pembroke School delivered a range of classroom based lessons, enrichment activities and a sports day.

Each child that attended were provided with a copy of ‘Look both ways’ by Jason Reynolds. Throughout the week, teachers linked some of the lessons and enrichment activities to stories from this book, such as creating the bogey face out of felt in the crafts session.

Some of the lessons and activities that we delivered included;

Arts & Crafts

Baking / Cooking

Children that were entitled to Free School Meals were offered a lunchtime meal. Any children that required transport support were also able to access the summer schools through staff taking and collecting them on the school mini bus. All children had access to fresh fruit, juice and snacks throughout the day.

The Priory Pembroke School received funding, in the amount of £5,225.05 from the government to allow the programme to be delivered. A breakdown of how the funding was spent can be seen below.

Just wanted to say 'Thank You' to all involved with the Summer School. Olly has had an amazing time and it's been wonderful picking him up each afternoon, buzzing with conversation about his days at Pembroke! It's really helped him to feel confident about joining you in September.

Have a wonderful summer and thank you again.

Marley has had the best day he came out on cloud 9 and was so excited to tell me he made a crumble. Thank you all for making these days happen it really has settled his nerves for the big move xxx
